Ria Kristina Torrente is a freelance photographer and writer based in Rizal, Philippines. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from Miriam College and has participated in visual journalism workshops with VII Academy.
With a focus on documentary photography, her current work centers on women and other human stories. Among them is a long-term series about women and children living with HIV from underserved communities. Through her lens, she hopes to bring more attention to this vulnerable group who are often left out of conversations around care and recovery.
Alongside her documentary projects, her personal expressions explore themes of solitude, memory, identity, and existence. She turns to photography as a way of making sense of the world, capturing its contradictions, tracing the passage of time, and returning to each moment where understanding slowly unravels.
